Oral Examinations
Regular oral exams (ideally twice-yearly) give your dentist the opportunity to help you maintain your oral health as well as identify any oral health issues early on and make a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your exam, your dentist will closely examine the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Your dentist may also perform dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Health Care At Home
To maintain a healthy smile in between professional dental appointments, it is recommended that you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once daily. For more information on proper oral health care at home, please speak to our dental team at Mount Pearl Dental.
Dental Cleaning
Before or after your dental exam, your dental hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth and gums to aid in the prevention and treatment of disease.
Using a scaler, they will remove any tartar and plaque build-up before using a polisher and special, coarse toothpaste to get rid of any leftover stains or plaque. Lastly, your hygenist will thoroughly floss your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If you or your child have a heightened risk of tooth decay, your dentist could recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help to rebuild the minerals in tooth enamel, preventing or even reversing tooth decay.
